Henry George (1839–1897) was an American writer and economist whose 1879 bestseller Progress and Poverty asked why poverty deepens even as society grows richer — and answered that the gains were being captured as land value.
His remedy, collecting that value for public use, inspired the movement now called Georgism and remains the foundation Unitism builds on.
