These Terms of Service (these “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Unitism® website at https://unitism.com and any successor URL(s), together with all related content, tools, and online services (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is owned and operated by Tashi Ventures Inc. (“Tashi Ventures,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), a corporation based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and acknowledge that you have read our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Unitism is an educational publishing project. The Service includes the online book, articles (“Insights”), guides, glossary, and other written content; interactive tools and simulations, including the Common Ground game; a shared availability scheduling tool; and an email newsletter. The Service is provided free of charge, requires no user account, and involves no payments.
2. No Professional Advice
The Service presents ideas about economics, land, public policy, and related subjects for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on the Service constitutes financial, investment, legal, tax, accounting, or other professional advice, and nothing on the Service should be relied upon as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on content from the Service.
3. Interactive Tools and Simulations
The interactive tools, calculators, models, and simulations on the Service — including the Common Ground game — are simplified illustrations of economic ideas. They are designed for learning and exploration, not for prediction or planning. We make no representation that their outputs are accurate, complete, or applicable to any real-world situation.
4. Scheduling Tool
The shared availability tool lets a group coordinate meeting times through a shareable link. By using it, you acknowledge that:
- Access is controlled only by the calendar’s share code. Anyone who has the link can view, change, or delete the names and availability on that calendar. Share the link only with people you intend to include.
- Calendars are automatically deleted 180 days after they were last updated.
- You should not enter sensitive personal information into the tool.
- The tool is provided as a convenience, without any guarantee of availability or durability, and we may change or discontinue it at any time.
5. Newsletter
If you subscribe to the Insights newsletter, we will use the email address you provide to send you the emails you signed up for, as described in our Privacy Policy. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
6. Acceptable Use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable burden on the Service or its infrastructure
- Attempt to compromise the security or integrity of the Service or intercept transmissions to or from its servers
- Transmit viruses, worms, or other harmful code through the Service
- Harvest or collect personal information from the Service, including names entered into the scheduling tool
- Access the Service using automated systems in a manner that exceeds reasonable human browsing, except for standard search engine indexing
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, or conceal your identity for deceptive purposes
- Submit unlawful, defamatory, or offensive content to any shared feature of the Service, including the scheduling tool
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation
We may restrict or block access to the Service for anyone who violates these rules.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service and its content — including the book, articles, guides, software, graphics, and design — are the property of Tashi Ventures Inc. and its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Unitism® is a trademark of Tashi Ventures Inc.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. You may quote brief excerpts of our content with attribution and a link to the source. Any other reproduction, distribution, modification, or creation of derivative works requires our prior written permission — if you would like to use our content more extensively, we would love to hear from you at legal@unitism.com.
8. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, ideas, or other feedback about the Service, you agree that we may use it without restriction or compensation to you. Feedback is non-confidential.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service contains links to third-party websites and resources. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices. Your use of any third-party website is at your own risk and subject to that party’s terms and policies.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Service and how we use it. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.
11. Changes to the Service
We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time and without notice. We do not guarantee that the Service, or any content or feature of it, will always be available or uninterrupted.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TASHI VENTURES DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT ANY CONTENT, TOOL, OR SIMULATION IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR RELIABLE.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL TASHI VENTURES INC., ITS AFFILIATES, OR ITS OR THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES — INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, OR DATA — ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED CANADIAN DOLLARS (CAD $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, or affects any statutory consumer rights you may have.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Tashi Ventures Inc. and its affiliates, and its and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, and licensors, from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your violation of any applicable law or third-party right in connection with your use of the Service.
15. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of laws principles. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of British Columbia, sitting in Vancouver, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. If you are a consumer, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer protection rules of the jurisdiction where you live.
16. General
Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and if the changes are material we will take reasonable steps to provide notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Tashi Ventures concerning the Service.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.
Assignment. You may not transfer or assign these Terms or any rights under them. We may assign these Terms without restriction, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
