The Unitism® website at https://unitism.com (the “Site”) is owned and operated by Tashi Ventures Inc. (“Tashi Ventures,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a corporation based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This privacy policy explains what information we collect through the Site and its related services (collectively, the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have in relation to it.

If you have any questions about this policy or our practices, please contact us at legal@unitism.com.

1. Overview

Unitism is an educational publishing site. You can read the book, articles, and guides, and use the interactive tools, without creating an account — the Service has no user accounts, no logins, and no payment features. The only personal information we collect is what you choose to give us:

  • An email address (and, optionally, your name) if you subscribe to our Insights newsletter
  • A display name and your availability if you use our shared scheduling tool
  • Whatever you include if you email us

We do not sell personal information, we do not show advertising, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies.

2. Information You Provide

Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe to Unitism Insights, we collect your email address and, if you provide them, your first and last name. This information is stored with our email delivery provider, Resend, and is used solely to send you the emails you signed up for — such as notifications when we publish a new article. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Scheduling tool. Our shared availability tool lets a group coordinate meeting times through a shareable link. If you use it, we store the display name you enter, the availability times you select, and any end date set for the calendar. Please note:

  • Access is controlled only by the calendar’s share code. Anyone who has the link can view the names and availability on that calendar, and can also change or delete them.
  • Calendars are automatically deleted 180 days after they were last updated.
  • The tool does not ask for — and you should not enter — any sensitive personal information. Use whatever display name you are comfortable sharing with the other participants.

Correspondence. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the contents of your message, which we use to respond to you.

3. Information Collected Automatically

Like nearly all websites, our hosting infrastructure automatically processes certain technical information when you visit the Site, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, and the pages you visit. This information is needed to deliver the Site, maintain its security, and understand aggregate usage.

We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to measure page views and site performance. These tools are cookieless: they collect aggregated, anonymized data, do not track you across other websites, and do not build individual visitor profiles.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any similar third-party tracking services.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use a minimal set of cookies and browser storage:

  • Language preference: a cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) may be set to remember which of the Site’s languages you selected.
  • Local storage: your browser may store small preferences locally on your device — such as your light/dark theme choice, your reading position in the book, your progress in the Common Ground game, and whether you dismissed certain prompts. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or fingerprinting.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Deliver the newsletter emails you subscribed to
  • Operate the scheduling tool for you and the people you share a calendar with
  • Respond to your questions and correspondence
  • Maintain the security, stability, and performance of the Site
  • Understand aggregate usage so we can improve the Site
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal processes

6. How We Share Your Information

We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run the Site, and only to the extent needed for them to perform their services:

  • Vercel — website hosting, content delivery, and cookieless analytics
  • Resend — newsletter contact storage and email delivery
  • Upstash — database storage for the scheduling tool

We may also disclose information where required by law — for example, to comply with a court order or other legal process — or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains protected.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, share it with third parties for their marketing purposes, or use it for advertising.

7. Where Your Information Is Processed

Tashi Ventures Inc. is based in Canada, and the service providers listed above process data primarily on servers located in the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate, which may have data protection laws different from those of your country. We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this policy wherever it is processed.

8. How Long We Keep Your Information

  • Newsletter contacts: retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information. Unsubscribed contacts stop receiving emails immediately, and we delete contact records on request.
  • Scheduling tool data: automatically deleted 180 days after the calendar was last updated. Anyone with a calendar’s link can also delete it at any time.
  • Correspondence: retained as long as needed to handle your inquiry and for a reasonable period thereafter.
  • Technical logs and analytics: retained for limited periods consistent with our providers’ standard practices, and only in aggregate form for analytics.

9. How We Keep Your Information Safe

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process, including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), reputable cloud infrastructure providers, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

The Site is a general-audience educational resource. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws — including Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and similar laws — to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent or object to certain processing at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at legal@unitism.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — though we would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.

Given the nature of the Service, exercising these rights is usually simple: we hold very little information about you, and most of it (such as newsletter contact details) can be removed with a single request.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page and will be effective as soon as it is posted. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you — for example, by posting a prominent notice on the Site or, if you are a newsletter subscriber, by email.
